#91 I Predict a Riot – The Kaiser Chiefs

I'm not sure what a 'sticker chick' is but she seems to be 'predicting a riot'

Despite all the “discussion” on the internet about the “meaning” of lyrics it’s all pretty obvious unless you’re some sort of foreigner (and any sort of foreigner wouldn’t have to live in England very long to get the general idea – they wouldn’t have to live in Leeds very long to get a very specific idea). ‘The Chav’ became quite the media darling in the noughties, so I gather, but I don’t think much has changed seen the days of Johnny Giles, Paul Reaney, Billy Bremner and Norman ‘bite yer legs’ Hunter (when the Leeds Utd. trainer was told Hunter had gone home with a broken leg, he just asked: “Whose?”) – or the 80’s riots … or pretty much any kicking-out time in England since the first World War. As far as the regional use of English is concerned, I can only presume that the Kaiser Chiefs like to holiday in Sheffield. Great song though – probably my favourite of the decade.

Lyrics

Watching the people get lairy
It’s not very pretty I tell thee
Walking through town is quite scary
It’s not very sensible either
A friend of a friend he got beaten
He looked the wrong way at a policeman
Would never of happened to Smeaton
An old leodensian
I predict a riot
I predict a riot
I predict a riot
I predict a riot
I tried to get to my taxi
The man in a tracksuit attacks me
He said that he saw it before me
And wants to get things a bit gory
Girls scrabble round with no clothes on
To borrow a pound for a condom
If it wasn’t for chip fat they’d be frozen
they’re not very sensible
I predict a riot
I predict a riot
I predict a riot
I predict a riot
And if there’s anybody left in here
That doesn’t want to be out there
Watching the people get lairy
It’s not very pretty I tell thee
Walking through town is quite scary
It’s not very sensible
I predict a riot
I predict a riot
I predict a riot
I predict a riot
And if there’s anybody left in here
That doesn’t want to be out there
I predict a riot
I predict a riot
I predict a riot
I predict a riot
