#2 Fade to Grey – Visage ft Gary Numan
A drum+ base update of classic 1980 visage hit courtesy of Gary Numan himself which makes an excellent counterpoint to the dulcet tones of Ms Allen (with considerably more fear).
Some might also see the track as a allegory for the evolution of Apple Computer Co. Inc.
Lyrics
One man on a lonely platform
One case sitting by his side
Two eyes staring cold and silent
Show fear as he turns to hide
Ah, we fade to grey
Ah, we fade to grey
Feel the rain like an English summer
Hear the notes from a distant song
Stepping out from a back shop poster
Wishing life wouldn’t be so long Un homme dans une gare isolée
Une valise a ses cotés
Des yeux fixes et froids
Montre de la peur lorsqu’il
Se tourne pour se cacher
Ah, we fade to grey
Sent la pluie comme un été Anglais
Entends les notes d’une chanson lointaine
Ah, we fade to grey
Sortant de derriere d’un poster
Espérant que la vie ne fut aussi longue
Actually the lyrics to the Nouvelle Vague version (also brilliant), I don’t remember the original
having quite so much french in it – but it well could have?
There seem to be some (in some places quite lively) discussion concerning who actually wrote this track, but it seems certain Midge Ure was involved (at least with the original synth programming) +
Billy Currie and Chris Payne and maybe Gary Numan himself. The general concensus is that it evolved, as things often do.
